Smith & Williamson, generous supporters of The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, have collaborated with Guildford Borough Council Heritage Services on the organisation of a watercolour workshop for local school children, inspiring the next generation of artists.

On 17 November 2015, groups of pupils from local schools including Thamesmead, St Peter’s and Guildford High visited Guildford House Gallery to spend a few hours learning about the versatility and joy of working with watercolour paint. The workshop was run by artist Janet Darley, whose work has been shortlisted for the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition for the past two years running. Janet, an experienced workshop leader, provided technical demonstrations and helped students explore the medium in depth.

The artworks created by the pupils during their workshops will be on display, to be viewed by their families, friends and the general public at the Brew House, 155 High Street, Guildford from 24 – 26 November 2015.

The workshop coincides with the final leg of The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition 2015 tour, which will be on show at Guildford House Gallery until 2 January 2016.
