What was your biggest challenge when preparing your entry?
When I was painting ‘From Southern Suburbs II’, I didn’t know I’d be entering it in the competition. In fact, I hadn’t been intending to enter until I met a friend in a gallery and he said: “Go on, you should.” When painting the watercolour, the challenge was to bring together a lot of experience and many quick earlier studies of the scene (done on the spot) into a coherent composition and mood.
